If you thought that there was no solution to those unsightly spider and varicose veins, think again! You can indeed treat these veins using a minimally-invasive procedure known as sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is designed especially for treating these types of veins, and at Derma-Tech Medical Spa, we use the most advanced techniques for minimal discomfort and optimal outcome.
What Happens During My Treatment?
During a sclerotherapy session, an ultrafine needle is used to deliver a sclerosing solution directly into the vein causing it to collapse. Eventually, a blood clot forms which will disappear from sight, leaving the area vein-free.
How Long Does Treatment Take?
An average sclerotherapy session takes 15-30 minutes, and altogether, most patients are in and out of the office within an hour. The time between each session is four to six weeks, and most patients will need two or more sessions for the best results. You can also come back for treatment as new veins start appearing. Since sclerotherapy is a no-downtime procedure, you’ll be able to get back into your car and even start driving immediately following treatment. It’s a procedure that can be easily scheduled into your normal routine.
Who is Sclerotherapy For?
Patients turn to sclerotherapy if they have small spider veins or more visible varicose veins, mainly on their legs. Usually, small veins are no cause for a medical concern, and people want them treated for aesthetic purposes. If you are suffering from aching, burning, or swelling due to these veins, it is best to see your physician. Sclerotherapy is not recommended for pregnant women.
Although sclerotherapy is a minimally-invasive treatment, there are some possible side effects to keep in mind. Some patients may experience bruising, swelling, or small skin sores at the injection site. These should disappear within a few days or at most, within a few weeks after treatment.
When Can I See Results from Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a gradual and progressive procedure. Although you might see improvements straight away, you’ll start seeing better results over several weeks with significant improvements over months to come. Generally speaking, most patients will have 2-4 treatments to achieve their desired outcomes. A private consultation with a professional is the best way to determine how many sessions will be needed for you.
Veins that respond to treatment with sclerotherapy won’t reappear. However, the procedure cannot prevent new veins from appearing. Overall, sclerotherapy has a success rate of up to 80 percent. During your initial consultation, one of our highly trained specialists will walk you through every aspect of your upcoming procedure including projected results.
