What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra is an FDA-approved anti-aging injection that uses poly-L-lactic acid to correct the appearance of deep smile lines around the nose and mouth. Sculptra provides instant volume to the treatment area but also works to encourage long-term collagen production. Sculptra dissolves over time, leaving behind firmer and more youthful-looking skin. Sculptra is ideal for candidates who have deep smile lines and nasolabial folds. Results can last up to two years; most patients see final results within 90 days of their treatment.

How Does It Work?
The main ingredient in Sculptra – Poly-L-lactic acid – is a biodegradable compound that is naturally absorbed by the body. Poly-L-lactic acid was originally developed to be used as stitches during surgical procedures; while it’s still used for this purpose, plastic surgeons have found that it provides significant improvement to facial areas with deep recesses (like smile lines and nasolabial folds).

Is It Painful?*
Sculptra isn’t painful, but some patients are uncomfortable during the injection procedure – and that’s perfectly normal! Since Sculptra is delivered to the treatment site via a fine-tip needle, your Derma Tech specialist can numb the area 20 minutes before the injection. You may notice bruising, swelling, and minor pain at the injection site for the first week or so after treatment.
