What is Hot Stone Massage and how does it work?

Hot Stone massage uses soothing oils and heated basalt
stones to relax your muscles, allowing for a deeper and more intense all-over
massage that melts away tension, eases muscle stiffness recharging your energy
levels and increases circulation and metabolism.

The size of the stones varies, according to which part of
the body your therapist is treating with a customized massage, which offers
enhanced benefits. Before you arrive, the stones are sanitized and heated in a
bath of 120 to 150 degree water. The stones themselves are usually basalt; a
black volcanic rock absorbs and retains heat well, and has been smoothed by
natural forces in the river or sea. Your therapist will use a variety of
strokes and techniques to massage you, working the stones and her hands over
your muscles working out knots. The massage may be quite strong, although you
are unlikely to feel the intensity since your muscles will be relaxed by the
stones. As your body sinks further into a state of relaxation, you may even
stop noticing the extreme changes in temperature.

Massage releases toxins from your body. When muscles are
massaged, toxins that are clogged within are released. This is why; it’s
advised that clients drink plenty of water after a session to help flush out
those unhealthy and unwanted toxins. The hot stones also expand blood vessels,
which encourages blood flow throughout the body. The hot stones have a sedative
effect that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep
relaxation. More often doctors are recommending this therapy as part of medical
treatment for Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Hypertension, depression, circulation
issues and musculoskeletal problems.
